The Kenai Peninsula Borough has two separate plans in place: The KPB Comprehensive Plan and the KPB Coastal Plan. With all of these agencies, the management of the Kenai River has been fragmented. During and , the Kenai River Advisory Board (KRAB) has been attempting to revise the Kenai River Comprehensive Management Plan as an attempt.

        The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge supports an expanding Trumpeter Swan population on more than 4, lakes. This is particularly good news given that of all the North American subpopulations sampled by Oyler-McCance et al. (), the swans collected on the Kenai Refuge had the highest level of allelic richness (i.e., genetic diversity). Amend the Kenai River Late-Run Sockeye Salmon Management Plan to manage primarily for sport, personal use and guided sport anglers and increase the sustainable escapement goal range to 1,,,, salmon.
